Property Rights

As there are threats to private property, we need a legislature that aggressively defends these basic rights. I have been proud to support efforts that protect waterfront access, restrict eminent domain, and ensure that exorbitant fees are not passed onto home buyers.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Pier Protection Act (2007 Wisconsin Act 204): Provide protections for waterfront landowners to utilize docks and piers.

Eminent Domain (2005 Wisconsin Act 233): In response to the United States Supreme Court decision that expanded the ability of government to use eminent domain powers, the State Legislature took action to limit this authority in Wisconsin. Sponsored by Harsdorf, this law limits the ability of government to take property in a redevelopment project to properties that are either abandoned or associated with a high crime rate.

Time limit on use of impact fees (2005 Wisconsin Act 203): Harsdorf cosponsored legislation that sought to curb abuses of impact fees on new home construction. 2005 Act 203 limits the amount of time that a local government may retain and use impact fees for their intended purpose.
