ACCOMPLISHMENTS
MN/WI Tuition Reciprocity: Harsdorf
has been on the frontlines on defending and
advocating for maintaining tuition
reciprocity with Minnesota. For years,
Minnesota has sought to curtail the
agreement, but by working together state
leaders were able to forge a longstanding
compromise that preserves both states
values.
Increased Wisconsin Higher Education
Grants (WHEG) (2005 Act 367): Harsdorf
authored legislation to increase the maximum
WHEG amount from $2,500 to $3,000 annually
for students.
College Tuition Tax Deduction (2005 Act
25): Increased tax deduction for
families to two times the cost of tuition at
a UW school. Saves Wisconsin families $10.2
million per year.
ACTION
Building Wisconsin’s Future
• 100% Student Loan Interest Deduction if
students stay in Wisconsin: Keeping our
talent that we have invested here in
Wisconsin is critical for our economy. By
enabling students to deduct loan interest,
we can make Wisconsin a first choice for
graduates.
• Cap tuition increases: We must hold the
line on tuition at our public universities.
Affordable access to higher education should
be available to all.
• Invest in the UW Growth Agenda: Maximize
higher education resources by investing in
programs that produce good-paying jobs, such
as nanotechnology in the Chippewa Valley.
