Honoring our Veterans
Veterans have fought bravely for our
country, and as they transition into
civilian life, it is important to be there
for them as they have been there for us. I
will fight to preserve and strengthen our
state veterans’ programs.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Wisconsin GI Act Tuition Remission
Program (2005 Act 468): Enables full
benefit of tuition and fees for up to 8
semesters or 128 credits at the University
of Wisconsin or Wisconsin Technical College
System to Wisconsin veterans. The program
extends to surviving spouses and dependents
wherein there is a service-connected
disability.
Veterans and Surviving Spouses Property
Tax Credit (2005 Acts 25 and 72):
Provides an income tax refund of property
taxes paid to Wisconsin disabled veterans
and surviving spouses. This important
program ensures veterans and surviving
spouses can afford to live in their home
after service to our country.
Military Funeral Dignity Protection Act
(2005 Act 114): Creates penalties if
protestors are disorderly within 500 feet of
a funeral service. Unfortunately, this
provision became necessary after a radical
group began protesting military funerals.
ACTION
Helping veterans that have served us
• Expand property tax credit for veterans by
eliminating age requirements.
• Add flexibility to the military credit
service for state retirement benefits.
• Protect Wisconsin GI Tuition Remission
Program: This new program was almost
repealed in the last budget. Enabling access
to state education for those that served us
should be a legislative priority.
• Guarantee voting access for our military
personnel. Extend period to absentee vote to
5 p.m. election day, as opposed to the
Friday before an election.
