Conservation & Natural Resources

Preserving our valuable natural resources ensures Wisconsin is a great place to live, work, and play. Conserving open space and managing our lands, waters and wildlife are vital to our outdoor traditions and tourism economy.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Great Lakes Compact (2007 Senate Bill 523): Protects the Great Lakes by entering a compact with bordering states that manages water diversion and ensures sustainability of our regions resources.

Extend the Stewardship Program (2007 Act 20): The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program provides funding to preserve open space and unique natural resources throughout Wisconsin. Increased funding and reauthorization of the program to 2020 will enable Wisconsin to retain its open land for recreation and enjoyment.

Green Tier (2003 Act 61): Harsdorf sponsored innovative reforms to how we manage our environment that has drawn national and international accolades. Green Tier takes a cooperative approach to regulation that enhances environmental performance and maximizes benefits.

Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Policy (2005 Act 141): Reinvents funding sources to ensure sustainability of energy programs that reward efficiency. As importantly, establishes standards for a renewable energy portfolio that would ensure expanded use of wind, solar, and other alternative energy resources toward a goal of energy independence.

Wildlife Violator Compact (2005 Act 282): Harsdorf championed bill that would bring Wisconsin into a national compact to ensure wildlife law violators in other states are prohibited from hunting and fishing in Wisconsin.
