ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Crackdown on Meth Act (2005 Act 14):
Since the passage of the Crackdown on Meth
Act, we have seen the trend of exploding
growth in meth labs reversed, so that meth
labs and the criminal elements that came
along with them are no longer plaguing our
communities.
Ending the State Crime Lab backlog (2007
Act 5): Voted to provide critical
resources to reduce the backlog at the State
Crime Lab that prevented timely prosecution
of criminals, increased law enforcement
costs, and endangered public safety.
Stephen Hubbard Act (2005 Act 101):
Sponsored legislation, named after a Hammond
boy that was tragically killed by his
mother’s boyfriend, that provides
protections to children by requiring courts
in custody cases to consider the backgrounds
of adults that will be in direct contact
with the children.
Local law enforcement capacity increases
(2007 Act 20): Budget work enabled us to
add assistant district attorneys in Polk
County and St. Croix County and a new
circuit court judge in St. Croix County.
Treat toxic meth-making around kids as
abuse (2005 Act 113): Harsdorf was
Senate lead on a bill that expanded the
scope of child abuse to this offense which
would trigger mandatory reporting and
investigation, while granting a juvenile
court jurisdiction over the child exposed.
Under the bill, exposure to meth includes
the manufacture of meth with a child present
or in a child's home, as well as
circumstances where a reasonable person
knows such manufacture has occurred.
